Mexican Turquoise - Ben Davis Designs
Mexican Turquoise Arrow Pendant – Sterling Silver
In history, turquoise has been treasured throughout Mexico and Mesoamerica. Ancient civilizations, including the Aztecs and Mixtecs, considered turquoise one of their most valuable gemstones, using it to create ceremonial masks, jewelry, mosaics, and offerings for royalty and the gods. One small historical note: many people say turquoise was "the stone of the gods" or that it represented the sky. Those ideas are rooted in Aztec and Mixtec traditions, but historians don't always agree on the exact symbolism. The stone symbolized protection, prosperity, and the connection between the earth and the sky. Today, Mexican turquoise continues to be admired for its vibrant color and rich cultural heritage.
Turquoise forms when copper-rich groundwater slowly moves through fractured host rock, depositing minerals over millions of years. The copper creates the vivid blue and green coloration, while trace minerals produce the natural bronze and brown matrix that makes every cabochon completely unique. The result is a gemstone with remarkable depth and organic beauty that cannot be replicated.
The cabochon was carefully cut and polished by lapidary artist Ben Davis, who shaped the stone into a classic triangle that pairs beautifully with the handcrafted sterling silver arrow design. The textured .925 sterling silver setting creates a bold Southwestern-inspired silhouette while allowing the natural beauty of the turquoise to remain the focal point.
This pendant features genuine Mexican turquoise, celebrated for its vibrant color, natural character, and centuries of artistic and cultural significance.
