Fordite ~ Automotive or History Fan? Custom Silver

$312.00

Fordite, also known as Motor City agate, is old automotive paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished. It was formed from the buildup of layers of enamel paint slag on tracks and skids on which cars were hand spray-painted (a now automated process), which have been baked numerous times. Sadly, this process is no longer in practice. This old factory method that created the material is long gone. That means once this unique and incredibly cool piece of history is gone, it's truly is gone. It takes 997 layers of paint to build a one inch thick slab. Your piece is made at the Chevy Truck Company in Detroit in the 1970's. This piece of history was so cool that we had our local Texas artist, Randy, do the silver work for us and the silver work goes across the entire back.
