Rare Northern Lights Ammolite Earrings and Pendant Set
$499.00
Ammolite, the vibrant gemstone fossilized from ancient marine mollusks, is one of our favorite finds from our trip to Tucson! With its iridescent play of color, this rare organic gem, primarily found in the Rocky Mountains, showcases a mesmerizing spectrum that strongly reminded me of the Northern Lights. This particular one has an almost feathery appearance. Ammolite wasn't officially recognized as a gemstone until 1981, but it's been around far longer! The rock in which ammolite is found is anywhere from 72 million to 75 million years old. Ammolite is one of the world's rarest gemstones. Formed from the fossilized shells of ancient sea creatures called ammonites, this iridescent stone is the result of tectonic pressure, heat, and mineralization that took over 70 million years!
