Ben cut this cabochon to highlight the natural dendritic formations, where tiny mineral deposits spread across the rhyolite like ancient trees, roots, or river systems frozen in time.
Rhyolite is a volcanic rock formed from silica-rich lava that cooled quickly near the Earth’s surface. As the rock solidified, mineral-rich fluids moved through microscopic fractures, depositing manganese and iron oxides that crystallized into the intricate dendritic patterns seen in this stone. These natural formations resemble plants or ferns, but they are actually mineral structures that developed slowly within the rock over long geological periods.
The result is a stone that feels almost like a landscape painting created by the Earth itself, with soft layers of color and organic branching shapes that make every piece completely unique.
The stone is set in solid .925 sterling silver, hand-crafted in Texas by geologist and lapidary artist Ben Davis with master silversmith Randy Bryant.
