Aurora Borealis & Colla Wood Landscape Pendant – Sterling Silver | Ben & Bryant Collection
It looks like the Northern Lights are dancing above a landscape. This one was designed after we visited Iceland and had a little bit of leftover colla wood. It's synthetic Aurora Borealis on top and fossilized Colla Wood on the bottom!
The upper portion shimmers with deep blues and flashes of green that shift with the light, much like the real aurora sweeping across polar skies. Beneath it, the warm brown Colla Wood adds grounding texture, its preserved grain patterns forming what looks like distant hills or desert ridges along the horizon line.
Colla Wood is fossilized wood, created when ancient trees are buried and slowly replaced by minerals over millions of years. The mineralization preserves the original cellular structure of the wood, allowing its intricate grain patterns to remain visible even after it has turned to stone.
The piece is set in solid .925 sterling silver, hand-crafted in Texas by geologist and lapidary artist Ben Davis with master silversmith Randy Bryant. The textured silver frame and small star-like accents echo the celestial theme while holding the layered materials together like a miniature landscape painting in metal.
Each piece in the Ben & Bryant Collection celebrates geology, craftsmanship, and the beauty of natural stone.
